Well, it was a rough week in having our babies' genders there but not able to know! Especially those who know me, know I hate not knowing something!! But, I can say it was well worth the wait!
I want to begin this post with the blessing our friends (who I consider all my family) in Charleston are to us. Sarah Christopher was an integral part of Alan's and my engagement 2 years ago (from the same weekend!) and now she is an integral part in revealing our babies' genders. She and her Momma (Charla) and her sisters and I even think she got John Austin in on it are as creative as the come! I was just teased by their "crafting' the weekend before and let me just say….they WAY OUTDID themselves! I had the cutest gender reveal/shower in the world! Cat in the Hat was the theme and it was awesome! Also, the wonderful, graciousness of Dr. and Mrs. Caldwell to open their home to us to have it there was so exciting. (And if you need a wedding venue in the future check it out at RiverOaks Charleston).
The night began with a great cookout of all things Dr. Seuss…..green eggs (deviled green eggs at that) and ham(burgers), hop on pop (popcorn), oodles of noodles (pasta salad), one fish two fish (fish crackers), and truffula fruit. And props to Dean for making some good burgers! We then began our reveal as the sun began to set. Sarah and Will had set up a Thing 1 and Thing 2 box filled with balloons and confetti. It was such a great experience to experience this with my parents and our family friends (though we did miss Alan's side). After we found out we were having two boys, the tears came. And there was a touching speech given by Mr. Bill Deans who has known me since before I was born.
From there were some yummy cupcakes and gifts and lots of socializing. I love my Charleston family and times when we can get together. It just reminds me of what friendships are really meant to be about. We have had these friends for over 24 years and the majority of that time has been with the "Baughman clan" being in a different city. Yet, these people love us like Christ and I never have to worry about if they will be there or not. It just makes me sad that these days those types of relationships are few and far between. Yet we are called as Christians to nourish these relationships everywhere we go.
Back to our boys, we are so ecstatic!!! God has truly blessed us! Alan had his guess correct and I missed it by one. We both are so excited about two boys and the journey ahead. These little ones have been moving like crazy the past week and this weekend Alan got to actually feel them move. Baby A has gotten tired of his brother kicking him in the head and has moved up in my abdomen towards my stomach….he thinks it is now fun to kick mom's stomach. Baby B is still using my bladder as his trampoline. It is quite interesting to say the least! I never thought I would actually feel a baby in my stomach and here it is! They are doing well!
I have my first of two glucose tolerance tests on Friday. Not so much looking forward to the drink but looking forward to seeing the babies again! Thank you for being excited with us and thank you for your continued prayers! God is good in all ways and shows us that abundantly through babies and friends this week!

The BIG Ultrasound!!
So, today was the BIG day! We had our anatomy ultrasound today and got to see our little munchkins! We are having a gender reveal party this weekend, so no genders yet! I was so nervous going in there because for some reason I was worried everything was going to be okay. Guess that is the motherly protection kicking in!
Last week, the babies began kicking hard enough for me to feel them. It was literally the coolest thing I have ever felt! It was multiple times and only on my left side, so I was curious about why I didn't ever feel the right baby kicking. Which, made me a nervous wreck!
Well, on the ultrasound we saw why, Baby A is facing a way as to kick only on the left and Baby B is positioned right at Baby A's head kicking it like crazy…..still some sibling fights going on in there! It was quite funny watching it.
We went through the limbs, the heart (both have four chambers!), the spine (looking good), the umbilical cords (three vessels) and kidneys and brain. All is looking good so far! She turned the monitor off so we couldn't see it when she got to the gender, and we are chomping at the bits to find out what these two little miracles are!
They were doing well in weight, 9 oz and 10 oz. Actually ahead of the game and if they didn't know my exact due date due to the in vitro, my due date would actually be moved up 10 days to August 21st! I like to hear my babies are growing big and ahead of the game!
Baby A is a lot like me according to ultrasound. Likes to be in the picture but very stubborn in getting into the right position for us to see things. It is a very active baby of the two. Didn't stop moving around and I had to change positions three times to get the angles needed for all its parts. Baby B is like its Daddy, camera shy covering its face with its hands and not wanting to show it at all lengths, but very laid back and obeying all other commands looking at all the body parts.
We can't wait to find out what these two little beings are! Their Momma and Daddy can't wait to figure out names and start hardcore preparing the nursery! So, we will let you know this weekend when we find out! Thank you for the continued prayers!

Despair, disappointment, and grace overcomes
So, for some reason over the past few days, God has really laid on my heart to share my testimony. This may get lengthy, but I hope that He uses this for His purpose and for the reason He has laid it on me.
I was born into a Christian home.....you know, we went to church every Sunday morning and night and attended Wednesday night Awana's and any other church event that was going on. My parents love Jesus with all their hearts and made sure we had our family devotional time and learned about Jesus. I don't remember a time Jesus wasn't the head of the house. My Granny (my mom's mom) was instrumental in Jesus in our lives, too. She showed a true testimony of Christ through sharing him with others and never doubting him through her struggle with cancer. I asked Jesus into my heart when I was 7 or 8 at a concert at the Citadel where Larnelle Harris and other Christian artists were performing. I actually went up with a group of my friends, because it was "kids day" and that's what we were supposed to do! I was baptized soon after at Isle of Palms beach in the ocean.....like Jesus.
When I was 9, my Granny died. I remember going into the house and seeing her in the dying process. I ran out to my bike and started riding it.....screaming at God , "Why? Why God are you doing this?" That was the first day my life was shattered. God had let me down. My best friend in life, my idol of this world and everything I wanted to be, was gone. I didn't go to her funeral. I didn't accept she was gone. And I got angry. I knew God had a plan, but I was bitter towards Him.
Well, life continued. My life with God as my Savior continued and I was involved in youth groups and had great friends in Charleston. I had my whole life planned out. I knew who I was marrying, the kids I would have, the college I was going to and my major and career planned. Then, He decided to rock our world. He decided to uproot our family and move us to Indiana and eventually to Charlotte, NC. During this time, it was what many call the "awkward" years for me. I was made fun of to a degree that I couldn't even describe. Let's just say being the new girl who is taller than all of her classmates and wears braces and is a little pudgy is not exactly easily accepted. I then saw my sister, the tiny, perfect sized, athletic, hilarious thing that she was be accepted by everyone and make friends and become popular. She had it so easy, I thought. So, I became angry with God, again. How could He take me away from my best friends and put me in this horrible situation. It wasn't my plan! Beyond what I could control and though I looked to Him sometimes, He wasn't the person I turned to. He took my Granny away and now my friends. I longed so badly to be accepted and I was so out of control in life. So, I decided I would take control and become skinny. I took control of the only thing that I could....eating. Without my parents knowing, I became bulemic/anorexic. If I ate, I exercised like crazy or took laxetives. And I began losing weight, and I began being noticed. I liked it. But it didn't last. And shortly after, we moved to Georgia.
Georgia was a milder situation. I grew in Christ, but through my wants in the world, it wasn't as deep as it should have been. But, He led me to Samford. I had the plan to attend pharmacy school at Samford. I worked hard for this goal and applied to pharmacy school at the end of my freshman year. I didn't make it into pharmacy school that year. I was rejected. A word that stung because of the rejection from middle and high school. I reverted back to bulemic tendencies my sophomore year because I had lost control of my life again and what I wanted. My plan was being shot. I was lost. I didn't understand why God was not letting me succeed in life with my career or friends. I was then invited to church with a friend of mine in March of my sophomore year. The preacher preached a sermon that would change my life. I broke down and told God I was serious this time. I had tried to be in control of my life and plan it instead of letting Him plan it for me. At that point, things changed. I had applied for pharmacy school again, I got an interview at the beginning of my junior year. A step past what I had gotten the year before. I was denied entry, again. But this time, I prayed. I prayed for God to lead me to where I needed to be.
That summer I moved to Charleston for some classes I needed to take to graduate college. That summer God led me not to one, but three physician assistants. I had never heard of this career before. So, I prayed and researched and felt this is where God was leading me. This was exactly what I had wanted to do, but had no idea it was there! I applied to PA school my senior year of college and interviewed with South Alabama. I didn't want to move from Birmingham, but I knew that God had His plan for me.
PA school was a pure struggle because of the content and the quickness of learning what we learned. I can truly say I only made it because of God holding me through. I had a relationship at that time and I wanted so badly to be married. All my friends were married, mostly were starting families, and I was without it all. I got jealous and I pursued my plan again. I completed PA school and accepted a job in Mobile. I then realized I was pursuing my own desires, again, and not looking to God. There were many horrible days and nights throughout those months. So, we ended the relationship and around that same time I had the opportunity to end my job in Mobile. I decided to take a trip around the United States. I wanted to experience God's creation. And I can honestly say it was the best decision at that time. My God and I grew together. He spoke to me and it was BEYOND evident He is ALIVE and REAL and the CREATOR! On that trip, I accepted that I may be single for life and that I just need to follow Him.
So, I did. Not to Charleston, where I wanted to move, but to Columbia, SC. Where he led me to the perfect man on this earth for me. It was out of the clear blue I was introduced to Alan. And we were friends for a long time and God had to do some convincing that I was meant to date and not be single. So, we dated and a short time later were married. And God couldn't have blessed me more than with him. But then, we were led to the challenge of children. See, God knows I still like to make my plan. He knows my struggles are planning and patience. And He still knows I from time to time, decide to make a plan for life.
Well, as you know from this blog, the journey He is taking us on. And, as I have been looking back, I needed the first time to fail with our in vitro. I needed to rely on my God and know that my plan isn't always His plan. I needed to realize that I need to give it to Him and not try to make it work on my own accord. I needed to get over the jealousy and bitterness I had built up inside me. He continues to grow me. He continues to test me. And that is how I know I am doing the right thing. He has never put me through a situation that I cannot get through with Him. He has carried me through so many difficult situations in life and only made my life a million times sweeter because it has been His way and not my own! He makes me appreciate the gifts I have been blessed with and they are that much sweeter because they are from Him.
I can say that I am thankful that He didn't just say, "Hey Lauren, I see your plan. Let me just give it to you like you want." Because I would not be the person I am today or nearly as happy. See, here's the thing. God uses our struggles in this world, this sinful world, for His glory in the end. Life is so much easier just saying "Here God. Here is my plan, I want your's instead." We may go through trials and tribulations, but in the end, having a relationship with God is what it is all about. He makes life sweet and death so much sweeter. His grace and forgiveness is overwhelming. And that is what it is all about.

16 weeks plus a few days
So, I haven't kept up on my pregnancy, I'm not really sure why. I am now at 16 weeks and 5 days. These babies are growing and I have gotten the privilege of ultra sounding them at work a few times to see them move. It is quite fun!
It is all still surreal to me. I am growing bigger, I see them growing bigger on the ultrasound, but I don't "feel" pregnant yet. I mean, yes, I have had the horrible nausea, not so horrible vomiting, and the everlasting heartburn, but it hasn't equaled pregnancy. We have a room in the house filling up with baby stuff and it still isn't real. I'm not sure when it will be real. I've felt them a few times, I think. They really don't like if I lie on my stomach or push on them. And sweet tea from a restaurant will make them move like crazy!
I am truly blessed. We get to find out the sexes in a few weeks, which I am way over excited about. Maybe then it will be "real?" Who knows. Maybe when I truly feel them moving on a regular basis. It is kind of weird. But, it is miraculous. God has truly continued to show His grace and mercy over us and his blessing of these two little beings.
I have started reading What to Expect When You're Expecting. I really like the book, it has been truthful and answered some questions. It also has made me worry sick over other things! And, too much time with the internet and google is not always healthy for the soul!
Since twins are normally born early, we are trying to make decisions and get things done earlier than the norm. I think once we know their sexes, we will be on a fast roll to get things done. Because we all know that hot summers and big bellies won't mix fix for much work! It's coming up super fast too!
Nothing exciting to really share on this one. Hormones have finally hit, crying over spilt milk or even a wrong look at me has become active, and my stability of emotions that took over my first 15 weeks of pregnancy have been replaced. Will updated you soon with more news as we get it!

Twins at twelve weeks
So, we announced to the world we are having twins and we couldn't be more excited and feeling blessed! Sorry for you all not getting answers sooner, but with our concerns on baby B and some spotting issues I was having early on, we decided it was best to get to the "safer zone" before we said anything.
We were given ultrasounds at 6 weeks, where we found we were having two, then due to my spotting at 7 weeks....and it is crazy the difference in growth in just that week! Then again at 8 weeks. Baby B was looking good along with A and both had strong heartbeats and normal size yolk sacs at that point! We felt comforted! We were, at that point, released from our fertility center to our regular OBGYN. I felt like I deserved a diploma for graduating or something!
We had our appointment with my normal OBGYN, Dr. Rossell, right at 12 weeks. It was so hard going 4 weeks without an ultrasound! You kinda get spoiled with those things and getting to see the babies! Due to it being twins, I will get an ultrasound for fetal heart tones at each visit! Which means I get to see them once a month! Both babies looked great at this visit and both had great heart rates! One of them, and I can't remember which, was even already stubborn in trying to let us get his side profile.....I say his just because that's what I think it is not because we know.
So, everything is looking good and we were excited to get the clear from her that it would be okay to announce we were having twins! Now just to wait 8 more weeks to find out what we are having! I begged for sooner but it didn't work....don't know if she doesn't understand how big of a planner I am and so type A! But I have been learning patience through this and will continue!
Thank you, again, for all of your prayers for us and the continued prayers! We feel them and know that is how we are where we are today. With God's grace and goodness!

Injections
I promised myself from the beginning I was going to be honest about this process, not make it look fluffy and simple, but let my true emotions show and my true fears. Today, I am having a frustration with injections.
Now don't get me wrong, I am so excited about being pregnant and I know that these are necessary to help keep me pregnant until my body's natural hormones fully take over. BUT, THEY HURT SO BADLY! At times. Alan has become a pro over the past 6 weeks giving them and it doesn't even hurt anymore when he jabs me with the needle….he learned that the quicker he goes the better and it doesn't hurt me. It's just the aftermath of the injections that hurt.
Initially, we are taught to inject the progesterone and the estrogen into either the upper buttocks or the lateral thigh. They suggest the upper buttocks, so that's where I began. It hurt to sit a few days because of how sore your muscles get (imagine getting a flu or tetanus shot every day and every other day in the same place). It eventually got a little better, but then it seemed the injections decided to flare up the nerves in my buttock/low back region and that was PAINFUL. So, at that time we changed the location to my lateral thighs. Didn't hurt as much as I thought it was going to, so that was pleasantly nice. But, now I feel like I have been performing squats or lunges for hours at the gym. It isn't too bad, but it still isn't the most pleasant feeling. Also, where the injections are has become numb. Like can't feel myself scratch my leg numb. It's just weird feeling more than anything. don't know if this is normal or not and just hoping feeling comes back after the injections stop!
I'm not trying to complain, because like I said, I am ecstatic to be pregnant and that this worked and know this is the process! But, I definitely don't look forward to my nightly injections and am kinda counting the days until 11-12 weeks hits so I can be finished with them. And, I hope I never have an illness in life where I have to take injection therapy for the remainder of my days and respect those people who have to do that.
So, that is my tangent today. I feel better now, ha. And now awaiting the next injection!
